Located midway between the Black Hills and the Big Horn Mountains on the rolling plains of the ancient Powder River Basin is Gillette, Wyoming, the “Energy Capital of the Nation.” Gillette is known as the “Energy Capital” because of its vast oil reserves, natural gas production, electrical power plants and the large number of coal mines which produce over thirty percent of the nation’s coal for electrical generation. Campbell County’s energy related economy provides a rich quality of life and many possibilities for employment and career opportunities. Gillette, a city of nearly 25,000, is one of the fastest-growing cities in the state.
Campbell County is rich in western and agricultural history, but is poised for new and diverse opportunities. For residents, Campbell County is a vibrant, safe, close-knit community; for new businesses looking to invest in Campbell County, there is a wealth of possibilities yet to be explored.
Interstate 90, a major travel way going East/West through the country, passes through Gillette. Highway 59 connects the cities of Gillette and Wright and is the corridor to central and south eastern Wyoming. Commercial service is available at the Gillette-Campbell County Airport, just five miles north of Gillette. Great Lakes Aviation provides daily departures with connections to Denver, CO.
Campbell County residents are young and energetic with a mean age of 30. Approximately 88 percent of the residents are high school graduates and 75 percent own their own homes.
Academically, Campbell County is known for its excellent schools and youth athletic opportunities. Numerous local students have ranked nationally in both academic prowess as well as outstanding athletic performance. Sheridan College’s Gillette Campus offers associate of arts, associate of science, and associate of applied science degrees, certificate programs, and program tracks that prepare students to transfer to a four-year college or university. In addition, students may elect to enroll in career training, professional development courses and/or vocational/technical programs.

Campbell County offers a full-range of businesses and restaurants catering to a wide variety of tastes. Art galleries, antique shops, and a variety of other stores satisfy most shopping desires. Gillette has numerous parks, swimming pools, and recreational opportunities, featuring activities for the bold and adventurous to the traditional and relaxing. Campbell County hosts three golf courses where the biggest hazards are the antelope that wander the courses. Gillette’s CAM-PLEX Multi-Events Center hosts international conferences and events, theatre and dance productions, trade shows, RV rallies, livestock shows, and rodeos. Many opportunities exist to experience a wide variety of wildlife in the area from big game animals to upland game birds.
