Riverton is a thriving community of 10,000 people located in the heart of Wyoming’s Wind River Country. Here a bank president may also shoe horses and doctors and lawyers can be found driving cattle on the weekends. It’s a community where men and women fly around the world to conduct their business, but come home to Riverton to conduct their lives. Riverton boasts an infrastructure unseen in many communities of 10,000 people. Central Wyoming College provides some of the finest educational programs in the state, and also offers a 1,000 seat theater which allows cultural events, plays and programs. A diverse library, strong churches, a lush green city park, an excellent 18-hole golf course and a modern airport with daily flights to Denver highlight our many amenities.
Located in the heart of Fremont County, an area larger than many Eastern States, Riverton is surrounded by mountains and rivers. The Wind River Range of the Rocky Mountains lies south and west; the Owl Creek Range is north. The Wind River is south and east of town, with the Gas Hills to the east. Sheltered by mountains to the west and north and on the edge of the precipitation shadow cast by the Rockies, Riverton has the mildest year-round weather in the state of Wyoming. The city offers the convenience of modern living within easy reach of world-class outdoor recreation. With 360 days of sunshine each year, residents can see 50 miles in every direction.
The highway system provides year-round access to all of Wyoming and to the surrounding states via US Highway 26 & Wyoming Highway 789. United Express serves the Riverton Regional Airport, located within the corporate limits of the city, with five daily flights to and from Denver. A new passenger terminal to serve a second carrier was completed in 1998. Western Executive Air provides charter service. The airport has a primary runway surface of 8,200 ft., stressed to 110,000 dual wheels loading.
Central Wyoming College (CWC) offers coursework for everyone from the serious student to the individual interested in taking single classes. The college’s facilities are used extensively by the community for entertainment and cultural events. Central Wyoming College provides nationally recognized equine education, nursing, broadcasting, fine arts and microcomputer technology classes.
Riverton Memorial Hospital is a 70-bed, full service, primary/acute care hospital with one of the two best-equipped radiology departments in the state. RMH offers many services including: outpatient care, mammography, nuclear medicine, cardiac rehab, pharmacy, respiratory and physical therapy.
Abundant recreation opportunities in the Wind River Mountains make Riverton a vacation destination in its own right. Fishing, hunting, camping, hiking, boating, golf, snowmobiling, skiing and just plain old relaxing are available within minutes of Riverton.
